What personal data we collect and why we collect it


When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.


If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

Who we share your data with

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

How we protect your data

Orient.gr has security measures in place to protect your information and prevent your personal data from being accidentally lost, used or accessed in an unauthorised way, altered or disclosed. In addition, Orient.gr gives access to your personal data to those employees, agents, contractors and other third parties based on “need to know” principle. They will only process your personal data on our instructions and they are subject to a duty of confidentiality.

What data breach procedures we have in place

Orient.gr has in place procedures to deal with any suspected personal data breach and will notify you and any applicable authority of a breach where we are legally required to do so.

What third parties we receive data from

Orient.gr uses third parties to perform some processing activities on its behalf. Some or all of your personal data may be disclosed to them, but they are only permitted to use the disclosed data for the purposes for which Orient.gr holds your data and in accordance with Orient.gr ’s directions.

Some of our external third parties are based outside the EEA so their processing of your personal data will involve a transfer of data outside the EEA.

Whenever Orient.gr transfers your personal data out of the EEA, Orient.gr ensures a similar degree of protection is afforded to it by the implementation of at least one of the following safeguards:

  • Orient.gr will only transfer your personal data to countries that have been deemed to provide an adequate level of protection for personal data by the European Commission.
  • Where Orient.gr shares your personal data within or uses certain third parties, Orient.gr uses the Model contracts for the transfer of personal data to third countries approved by the European Commission which give personal data the same protection it has in Europe.

What automated decision making and/or profiling we do with user data

The legal basis for this is that it is necessary for the legitimate interests of Orient.gr in carrying out marketing activities.

If you choose to give information beyond that which Orient.gr requires you to provide, the basis for processing that information is your consent as demonstrated by your voluntarily providing it. You have the right to withdraw that consent at any time. You can do this by writing to Orient.gr at the address shown above.

Purpose for Orient.gr processing your personal data

(‘Processing’ means any activity Orient.gr perform with the personal data about you including gathering it, holding it, using it and disclosing it.)

The only purpose for which Orient.gr will process and use your personal data is performing the contracting obligation with you and enabling contact (by Orient.gr company and others) with your organisation.

This includes:

  • Administering, managing and developing Orient.gr business
  • Managing Orient.gr relationship with customers and prospective customers;
  • Maintaining and using IT systems;
  • Hosting or facilitating the hosting of events; and
